It's amazing and depending on how much you tighten it will work in any situation.

wood hoop will give you a fatter cross stic sound, where the diecast or metal hoop will sound bright and a tad on the brital side.
13' verses 14"? personal choice there.
13" will give off less overall overtones where a 14" might produce a little more especially depending on the shell type (metal verses wood).
If you're good at tuning, it really won't matter shell diameter though.

The best snare drum I've ever heard is a 13" Innovation acrylic snare drum.

I heard Chris "Daddy" Dave play it with M'Shell N'Degeocello last year.

I talked to Chris, and then Steve Badalament, the owner of Innovation Drums about that drum after the show. I asked how much a snare drum like that would cost...

He said $2500!

I gotta tell you, that baby sounded incredible...

Apparently a lot of top "name" drummers have a secret studio stash of Innovation drums- but of course they can't advertise that...

The Paul Leim signature Yamaha snare is a nice alternative to the Black Beauty.

Can get a 6.5X14 BB for $462, a Dunnett stainless for $575 and the Liem is significantly more than the BB too!

I own a 5x14 Paul Leim.........use quite often.
Personally, I think the quality of the Yamaha verses the standard BB is better.
